How to recharge over the weekend

I think most of us wish weekends were 1 or 2 days longer, to be able to get more things done and to switch off at the same time.

I think we all struggle to separate the two. And we feel guilty for not getting enough things done.

But weekends should be about switching off, relaxing and recharging to be able to be your best during the week.

I used to make the mistake that I end up working even on the weekends and feel like there is no separation, no me time. I end up being stressed, annoyed about it.

Because of that I really started drawing a line and with Friday night making a change.

Spending a weekend the way I really want to and not worrying about work is making a big difference. I feel more rested, excited and a lot more productive on a Monday morning.

So here are a few tips that can help you to relax and recharge over the weekend.

1. Do one thing before you start your weekend.

I start my Saturday by thinking about what I want to do and whether there is anything very important. If so, I'll start with that, so I feel like I've already done something, so I don't have to feel bad about not doing "work" all weekend.

2. Do something you like.

The weekend is perfect for doing things we enjoy, not things we have to do. Start by asking yourself what do you want to do?

For example, I like to go to my favorite bakery on Saturday mornings and have a nice catch up with my husband about our week and plan how to spend the weekend.

3. Turn off notifications and spend as little time as possible on your phone/laptop.

This way, you can better focus on things that you like and are interested in, and you can really switch off. In this case you won't be scrolling through Instagram or Tiktok for hours.

4. Do something new.

Take part in a new experience, for example, go to an exhibition or visit a new neighborhood.

On weekends, I like to explore new neighborhoods where I haven't been before and find lots of new things. For me it's very exciting and I always see something inspiring.

5. Move or rest.

Depending on which type you are. Do you exercise on weekdays? Then rest on the weekend and give your body a break. In this case, I just stretch and roll on Sundays.

And if you only have time to exercise on the weekend, choose a form of exercise that you enjoy and that uplifts you.

6. Spend time outdoors.

When you work in the office or at home all week, it's good to get out and be in nature. Listen to the birds and enjoy nature. A good walk always recharges you and movement can only be good.

7. Read.

The weekend is the perfect time to read your favorite book or magazine in peace. Reading has many positive effects, for example, it improves memory, relieves stress and gives you peace, and it stimulates your brain.

8. Plan your next week

On Sunday afternoon, towards evening, I like to look through my calendar to see what meetings and plans I have during the week. I plan in advance what I'm going to cook, I even prepare a few dishes in advance, what I'm going to wear, etc.

As a result, I start Monday much calmer and more balanced.

I hope you find this helpful and you can use some of these tips to make your weekends more relaxing.
