Back to Routine: 5 Small Habits Worth Reintroducing This September

Summer, for many of us, is all about spontaneity. Later mornings, long evenings, travelling, holidays, less structured mealtimes – and perhaps a little less routine.

But as September arrives, we naturally start craving a little more structure in our everyday lives.

Getting back into a routine doesn't mean changing everything overnight. In fact, the habits that tend to stay with us are often the simplest ones – the ones that genuinely fit into our lives.

Here are five small habits to help you find your rhythm again this September.

1. Start Your Day with a Nourishing, Protein-Rich Breakfast

Breakfast is a great opportunity to give your body valuable nutrients at the beginning of the day.

Getting enough protein is particularly important, as protein contributes to the maintenance and growth of muscle mass.

Eggs, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, porridge with nuts and seeds, or a fruit and protein smoothie are all great options. On busy mornings, Essa World Vegan Protein is also a simple way to increase the protein content of your breakfast or smoothie.

The goal isn't to create the perfect breakfast. It's about finding a few nourishing options that are easy enough to prepare even on your busiest mornings.

2. Eat Seasonally – and Add More Colour to Your Plate

September is an especially abundant time for locally and European-grown fruit and vegetables.

Apples, pears, grapes, plums, peppers, broccoli, beetroot, carrots and the first pumpkins of the season give us plenty of colourful, nutrient-rich ingredients to choose from.

Try to include a variety of colours on your plate. Different plant foods provide different vitamins, minerals, fibre and naturally occurring plant compounds.

And whenever possible, choose produce that is seasonal, locally grown or at least grown within Europe.

3. Move Your Body – and Remember That It Doesn't Always Have to Be a Workout

Movement doesn't always have to mean an hour-long workout.

A walk after lunch, a few minutes of stretching in the morning, cycling, or a short strength session at home can all contribute to an active lifestyle.

Whenever you can, spend some time outdoors too. Fresh air and time in nature offer a valuable opportunity to step away from screens and the constant demands of everyday life.

Instead of asking yourself how you can fit in the perfect workout every day, think about how you can simply move a little more each day.

4. Return to Your Everyday Wellness Routine

It's easy for our usual routines to slip during summer holidays and travel. September is a great opportunity to return to the small habits that we know make us feel good.

Drink enough water, prioritise a varied and balanced diet, prepare a few nourishing meals in advance, and create a morning routine that you can realistically maintain.

If you take supplements, try linking them to a habit you already have – such as breakfast – to make them easier to incorporate into your everyday routine. Our Inner Beauty vitamin is a great choice to support your healthy and beauty from within.

5. Reset Your Sleep Routine

After long summer evenings, September is a good time to bring a little more consistency back to your sleep schedule.

Try going to bed and waking up at roughly the same time each day, reduce screen time in the evening, and give yourself time to gradually slow down before bed.

You Don't Have to Change Everything in the beginning of September

September can sometimes feel like a second January – new plans, new goals and new routines.

But you don't need to start an entirely new life.

Choose just one thing you'd like to bring back into your everyday routine and start there.

A balanced lifestyle isn't about perfection. It's about the small choices we continue to make for ourselves, day after day.
